• Float Chamber Gasket and ORing

If you car has a carbureted made by Zenith Stromberg you should always keep a float bowl gasket kit on hand for emergencies. The Stromberg carb is prone to float bowl gasoline leaks. Since the exhaust manifold is located be-neath the carburetor(s), any fuel leaking out poses a significant fire hazard! The float bowl gasket often leaks. It should be replaced every time the float bowl is removed from the carburetor. Trying to re-use the gasket, or worse- trying to smear gasket “goop” on it is a real no-no. Not only will it end up leaking, you’ll probably plug the carburetor jet with gasket cement! Stromberg 150 & 175 CDSE carburetors have a plastic plug in the bottom of the float bowl. You might be fooled into thinking that its brass because there is often a brass covering on it. This plug replaces the adjustable jet on early Stromberg “CD” carburetors of the mid 1960’s. After about 1968 these carburetors have a fixed jet. However, the float bowl plug is sealed in the bottom of the float bowl with a rubber O-ring. This O-ring gets “tired” and begins to leak, particularly if it’s been disturbed. The plastic plug is held into the float bowl with “barbs” on the inner end. It’s a simple matter of care- fully squeezing the end and pulling the plug out of the float bowl. The O-ring can then be easily replaced and the plug re-installed. Order one gasket & O-ring kit per carburetor. Fits all 150 & 175 CDSE Stromberg carburetors.
